• Start a Telnet session to shrsys.hslc.org, and use SAL as a username.

• Start a Telnet session to psupen.psu.edu, and use the two-letter abbreviation for your state or world as a username.

Example 3.4 Weather Forecasts; Telnet with a port number

• Start a telnet session to wind.atmos.uah.edu using the port number 3000.

Access to Weather Service Sites

You contact each of these sites by starting a telnet session and using a port number. That way no login name or password is required. The telnet command to use for each site is listed below its name.

Access to Other Internet Services Through Telnet

Most Internet services and programs can be used through telnet. To access

• Archie Start a telnet session with archie.internic.net and use archie as the login name.
• Gopher Start a telnet session with consultant.micro.umn.edu and use gopher as the login name.
• WAIS Start a telnet session with quake.think.com and use wais as the login name.
• WWW Start a telnet session with lynx.cc.ukans.edu and use www as the login name.
