Visual Dictionary

I read about the Visual Dictionary in the current issue of The Scout Report, produced by the Internet Scout Project. The Visual Dictionary mimics the version I’ve seen in print, but takes complete advantage of being Web-based.  The dictionary is described on the site as

Visual Dictionary, to learn by way of image with thematic, clear and precise pages, with concise and rigorous texts, multilingual, the InfoVisual will become a academic resource. Different from an encyclopedia or from a traditional online dictionaries, thesauri and glossaries because the images replace the words.

One can search by category or by words. When a category is selected you can browse a collection of images to for a variety of information about an image or topic.  For example, clicking on the image titled Biology/animal takes you to a page where you can click on an image of a frog to see the image below, but it is much better than that. The category Frog includes, as all do, a collection of buttons

They are all active for the frog. The image below was retrieved using the button “Image Share”
