Brief Review. The Jew Store: A Family Memoir by Stella Suberman

The Jew Store: A Family Memoir by Stella Suberman

America in the twenties. The Bronsons, a Jewish family, the parents are from Russia, move first to Nashville and then to Concordia TN to establish a business – Bronson’s Low Priced Store. As I read it I thought it was told almost entirely from the point of view of the mother, a stereotypical, classic Jewish mother, and her dealing with living in a land where there were no other Jews in town. Definitely a memoir. Several heros standing up to child labor, the Klan, and the prejudice. But a fair amount of accommodation as well.
