Fredericksburg Songwriters' Showcase Karma Farmers

The Karma Farmers, based in Richmond, are currently supporting their new CD: Songs for Aging Cynics. The early reviews have been very good. Rick Warner of Bloomberg News wrote: "If Twain and Mencken were alive today, they'd have ``Songs for Aging Cynics" on their iPods." The Farmers' music has been described as "edgy acoustic" and "original gonzo folk" and includes jazz voicings and several love ballads, plus an anti-war song called "Virgins in Heaven."

Vocalist Jeanine Guidry reminds many people of Sarah McLachlan while songwriter/guitarist Dave Shiflett's growl brings to mind Dave Van Ronk. Mandolinist Tripp Johnson rounds out the trio.
