Fredericksburg Songwriters' Showcase | Karma Farmers |
The Karma Farmers, based in Richmond, are currently supporting their new CD: Songs for Aging Cynics. The early reviews have been very good. Rick Warner of Bloomberg News wrote: "If Twain and Mencken were alive today, they'd have ``Songs for Aging Cynics
" on their iPods." The Farmers' music has been described as "edgy acoustic" and "original gonzo folk" and includes jazz voicings and several love ballads, plus an anti-war song called "Virgins in Heaven."
Vocalist Jeanine Guidry reminds many people of Sarah McLachlan while songwriter/guitarist Dave Shiflett's growl brings to mind Dave Van Ronk. Mandolinist Tripp Johnson rounds out the trio.
