Fredericksburg Songwriters' Showcase Breathing Room

Drawn together by fate, the individual members of Breathing Room have been involved in the music scene for many years. Singer, songwriter Chris Vogt performed extensively during her college years in and around Penn State as a solo artist. Two of her songs achieved regional recognition after being recorded and published by a professional band, Cartoon, in 1983. Sally Twentey has played with a variety of groups from brass quintets to rock bands. Her songs have been recognized as finalists in both the Alternative and Gospel categories in the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest. Sally holds a degree in Instrumental Music and enjoys playing acoustic guitar, cello, trombone, trumpet and bass in Breathing Room. The group's percussionist, Lynn Hunt, played with The Venus Fly Trap and with the women's band InSight Out prior to getting involved with Breathing Room. You never know what she'll pick up next --bongo's, djembe', trap set, shakers… Saxaphonist, Anne Evans received her musical training at Interlochen Arts Academy and the University of Michigan. A native Detroiter, she performed in the II V I Big Band and the Urbations, a well-known motor city rock-n-roll band of the 1980's. Anne also plays the didgeridoo, an instrument of the Australian aborigines.

Breathing Room has spent the last two years performing at folk festivals and various venues in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and DC. Their original compositions range from soul searching ballads to funky folk tunes. Together their voices blend in smooth harmonies to produce a uniquely rich and assertive sound. With their first CD still in the production phase, Breathing Room is excited about the prospect of sharing their music with a larger audience. The inclusive nature of this group's music is characterized not only by their versatile instrumentation but by their grounding piece "…All are welcome, everybody's welcome in the Breathing Room".
