Internet Statistics

I typically give my students the assignment to find how many hours, on the average, American's spend on the Internet per week. The usual approach is to search using Google. This brings up some results, but the results are often not current. A reliable source for current information is ClickZ Stats in the section traffic pattern .
Some other sites to consider are

• The Internet section of "How Much Information? 2003 "produced by faculty and students at the School of Information Management and Systems at the University of California at Berkeley."
  
• the Harris Poll items about the Internet. Th most recent one I could find was for February 5, 2003.


• WebZeit: Citegeist. Some information, some commentary.


• American mothers get online . An article from 2002 that says that American mothers spend more time on the Internet than teenagers.


• The size of the blogosphere? It's not easy to get a definitive answer on that. One place to look for an answer is blogcount, with sources listed at http://dijest.com/bc/#sources. An article from ClickZ in 2003, Blogging by the Numbers, put the number of active blogs at 1.6 million with more than twice that many registered.
